long time.. another place.. post remains the same..

i just realized that my last post was on 1 october 2007 and thought of writing one before the expiry of this semi-annual period. i will keep this post random with uncorrelated updates and very boring (ya ya, i know that is always the case but i felt like putting this disclaimer still) for the readers of my blog, if any :)

so much has happened since my last post, notable being my shifting of job (yes, once again !!) and moving to hk.. job is ok, frankly i have stopped expecting much from jobs now and so i don't mind the work that i do.. still there is good learning and it gives me access to the sell-side of the market which is a different experience.. thanks to the nature of job, which involves dealing with absolutely dumb sales-guys and very arrogant traders on a regular level, my patience level is on an increasing trend.. i wonder when will it meet a resistance level and the bull rally will fade.. i know, a poor joke.. apologies :)

anyways leaving the job aside which eats up the 5 days, i tend to do decent enough timepass over the weekends.. saturday morning usually play football for 1-2 hours, a bunch of 10 guys make it 5 a side which results in a good passing game and avoids crowding on the field.. this could be followed by an hour of tennis or squash on the evening.. if we have a hindi movie release on a weekend, we tend to watch it without fail however costly the ticket is :) not all hindi movies release here but the good thing is that the dvd of each movie comes here very soon after its india release and the dvd price is very very reasonable and the print is also very decent..

speaking of movies, i can pick three movies that i have watched since coming here and liked a lot, the unique aspect of these movies is they are in different languages: my sassy girl (korean), jab we met (hindi) and bomarillu (kannada).. i won't delve into the details as to what i liked about each of these movies, one thing i would say is that all three of them are very similar in some aspects and very different in the others.. they surely are very very feel good :)

there have not been any blockbuster soundtracks during last 6 months in which all the songs were great, but still there have been some albums which i liked very much and found the majority of the songs in them to be repeat listen.. oldest the lot has been jab we met.. mohit chauhan has seriously come a long long way.. from the days of boondein, dooba dooba, sabse peeche hum khade to guncha, khoon chala and now "tum se hi".. this is indeed the loveliest song that i have heard in a long time and can listen to it any time any day.. add to this the lively songs like "aao milo chalo" and "ye ishq haaye" and u have a rocking must have album.. i liked taare zameen par for the kind of variety that prasoon joshi again put in the lyrics of the album (just like rang de basanti), the result might not have been as successful as RDB but we surely have some great songs in "maa" and "kholo kholo".. ar rahman made a return to the foray with jodha akbar, the music didn't meet the general expectations but i quite liked it.. call it my slight bias for anything that has rahman but songs like "jashn bahara" and "in lamhon ke daaman main" areery touching especially in the context of the story.. and then we have "azeem-o-shaan" which becomes so much special because of the awesome percussion by sivamani.. another recent addition has been "you me aur hum" which is composed by vishal bhardwaj (am again biased for this guy) and the songs are best described as chirpy.. i am sure most of my married friends will find the songs of this album quite interesting :) and the last addition has been jannat with music composed by pritam and lyrics by sayed qadri.. yes the team of life in a metro is back and though there is neither james nor soham (i love "in dino") but there is KK :) who effortlessly croons "haan tu hai" and "zara sa".. and there is this bunch of new singers with rana mazumder simply leaving you mesmerized by the variation in the pitch of his voice in the song "door na ja" (fast becoming my fav) and rupam islam who for sure leaves an impression on the listener in the song "jannat jahan" which is a very fast pace song..

lastly some updates on the books.. recently read norwegian wood (was on the shelves for a long time) and liked it a lot.. murakami simply has written one of the most unrestrained story, while reading it i had the feeling that the protagonist is narrating each and everything happening is his life without any scruples which i found quite interesting..i read the book in a relatively short time and knowing me (i am a very very slow reader) this also points to the fact that it is one of those books where once you start reading it, you find it difficult to give up in between and you feel like completing it on that very reading.. i have become an even bigger fan of murakami-san.. these days reading "my name is red" by orhan pamuk.. quite different, calls for a slow reading.. but very vivid in description and shows the depth of knowledge that author has on the subject he is writing about.. the story continues with each chapter being narrated by a character in the story, so it is different from roshoman but still an interesting read..

ok.. so i think i will put a full stop to the random updates that i have provided here.. i usually don't feel like stopping once i start writing but i am afraid that one day it will become so boring that even i might not be able to re-read it in future and forfeit the main purpose for which i am writing this.. hopefully will write soon more within a week.. keeping my fingers crossed.. hasta la vista..
